Capital Shortage History 1d
**Capital Shortage** (CS) is a market sentiment indicator that tracks the utilization of stablecoins on exchanges to reflect changes in the heat of the perpetual futures market. A higher CS value indicates that more market capital is being utilized (traders are using higher leverage), suggesting an overall optimistic market sentiment. Conversely, a lower CS value suggests less capital utilization (traders are using less leverage), indicating a more pessimistic market sentiment.
In general, when the market is performing well, the CS value tends to be higher (green), as traders are more inclined to use leverage for trading. On the other hand, during periods of market downturns or consolidation, the CS value is usually lower (red).
The Capital Shortage Index can be used to monitor recent market activity and assess the evolution of trends. It can also be analyzed alongside other trend indicators such as market sentiment and squeeze momentum to form a comprehensive market outlook.
Blave’s Capital Shortage data primarily reflects the capital utilization level, which is influenced by the availability of market liquidity and trader behavior. This means the indicator may move in sync with price trends or even act as a leading indicator.

Capital Shortage History 1d
For example, in the chart highlighted above. Initially, a high red bar appears while BTC’s price (black line) continues to drop, followed by a gradual decline in CS. This suggests that when capital was abundant (high red bars), the market had already confirmed a bearish trend. In the first two highlighted periods, even as the CS index began to recover, the trend did not immediately reverse. Instead, after a brief rebound, the downtrend continued until the CS index returned to the zero line or turned green, signaling a strengthening trend.
Similarly, in an uptrend, when CS is at an extreme level (high green bars), the market trend is clearly bullish. As the CS index declines, short-term corrections or trend reversals may occur.
